#TravelSaturday: Fenghuang County, China

Fenghuang County (phoenix county translated) is a town located in the province of Hunan, China. Known by many as the most beautiful town in China, it was first built in the year of 1704(Qing Dynasty) and added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List on March 28, 2008 in the Cultural category.

After 300 years’ of existence, it has an exceptionally well-preserved original appearance, with many distinctive architectural remains of Ming and Qing styles.

This town is placed in a mountain setting, incorporating the natural flow of water into city layout, creating a harmonious relationship between human and nature. This privileged location has helped with its preservation, since it has protected the town from wars and natural disasters over the centuries.

The majority of its population belong to the Miao or Tujia minorities, while most of their rites and traditions are still intact.
